Featuring:
Bill Guerin, as the grizzled old veteran
Chris Kunitz, as the previous Cup winner
Mario Lemieux, as the impatient owner
Ray Shero, as the anxious GM
Evgeni Malkin, as the loyal sidekick
In the Steel City there was no glee
Their hockey team was as cold as could be.
There was no fire, there was no spark
Mario’s look was really quite dark.
“We must make the playoffs, make no mistake!”
And when Mario spoke, Ray Shero did shake.
Shero decided to add Dan the Man -
Bylsma, from over in Wilkes-Barre land.
Dan came to the ‘burg and brought with him a smile
Not to mention, a new, more offensive style.
The Kid’s eyes widened with wonder
Were they at last “out from under?”
Staal gasped, “I can skate here, I can skate there?”
“You mean I can skate anywhere?”
Dan the Man said, “Yes, skate up and skate down
And over and under - just go to town!”
They started to play, Dan took off the shackles,
They scored goal after goal, raising other team’s hackles.
Down went Chicago, Dallas, the Lightning
This team all of a sudden was really quite frightening.
The Panthers and Caps drew more of their wrath
As Kunitz, Guerin, Adams got in their path.
The hits, they kept coming, from Cooke and his crew
While stats for Sid and Geno just grew and grew.
Fleury stood tall, stopping them all,
Shootout? No worries, the Flower’s a wall.
Sid, Kris and Geno will fill the other net
Don’t even worry – it’s not over yet!
In the Steel City there now are bright smiles
“They’re back!” you will hear for miles and miles.
Will the Pens make the playoffs?
Ask Dan or ask Sid.
Will this team have another Stanley Cup bid?
Mario is happy, Shero is fine
The rest of the team is having a time.
See them in May, see them in June?
We can only hope there will still be room!
