Paul and Nicole Klein
After all the fun stories of proposals, stories of weddings with Penguin elements, and even stories of honeymoons spent watching Pens’ games, we now come to the full-blown Penguin wedding.
Nicole and Paul Klein met while they were students at California University of Pennsylvania. Nicole was born in Ohio but moved to Pittsburgh at the tender age of five when her father was transferred. They now live in Virginia, but get to Pittsburgh often and have been season ticket holders for the past two years.
Keeping with the sports theme, Paul proposed to Nicole at a Pittsburgh Pirates game (off season for the Pens!).“We decided that since we were only getting married once that we were doing it the right way, with a Pittsburgh Penguins themed wedding,” said Nicole.
She got the idea when she attended a friend’s wedding. Her friend was a fan of Jimmy Buffet and his music and so the wedding was a luau.“That gave me the idea to go with what we loved best, which was the Pens. This was my idea but Paul was happy that I decided to do it.”

Hmmm...what lies beneath this puck??
The joyous day came on May 24, 2008 at St. Barbara’s Church in Harrison City, Pennsylvania.
“Since my favorite player is Sidney Crosby and Paul’s is Mario Lemieux, the head table was half #87 and half #66. Each of the other tables were named after current or former players and placed on respective sides.”
Small Penguin logo stick jerseys went into the back of every table place setting and were awaiting guests as they came in to find out their assigned table. The center pieces were white candles in holders with black and gold petals spread around them. Even the plates were black and gold napkins accompanied them.
The bridesmaids’ dresses were gold and their flowers were goldish yellow and white with black accents. The males in the wedding party wore black tuxes with gold vests and ties.
For photos, the bridal party showed off their rally towels and then showed how to use them!

Wedding and playoffs in Pittsburgh? Rally towel wavin' is a no brainer!
“When Paul and I were introduced at our reception, we walked in to the Pens’ theme music, the one they play when they come on the ice. We walked in wearing Crosby and Malkin jerseys.”

But this part takes the cake (pardon the pun!). Their three-tiered wedding cake was held up by miniature Stanley Cups, with a Zamboni on the second tier and a Pittsburgh Penguin puck topped it off. Flecks of gold decorated the while icing and the cake was surrounded by black petals.

“The groom’s cake was an ice rink with the Pens logo on it and a Zamboni. The logo was even edible, I found it on the Internet,” Nicole said proudly.
If any of you are soon-to-be brides, you may to take some hints from this wedding or use the ideas to build on your own.

That's right: EDIBLE logos!!!
Nicole and Paul are expecting a son in a few months. Do you think he just might like hockey?
Happy Hockey Wedding Planning and Let’s Go, Pens!
