Well, it’s good to be back in hockey land with the rest of you. I’ve been in Chicago for work since Tuesday and felt completely at a loss where hockey was concerned. There was no Versus, no NHL Network, no time to even read much about the game. I literally walked in the door of my house at 6:15 tonight, 15 minutes or so before the drop of the puck and not a moment too soon for a hockey-deprived fan!
While this may not have been the most artistic game, the result was great for the Pens. This also wasn’t your typical Pens/Flyers bout, although the hitting did pick up. With goals from Sykora, Crosby and two from Malkin, the Pens were able to hold off the likes of Briere and Umberger, at least for tonight. Mike Richards was another story as he was able to poke two pucks past Fantastic Fleury.
Richards also made a big hit on Malkin. Obviously, Geno doesn’t take too kindly to being slammed into the boards, as we could see when he got back up, took a great pass from Gonchar and rocketed a slap shot from really close range for a goal on Biron.
Neither team took many penalties tonight; something the Flyers can’t afford to do against the potent power play of the Pens. Too bad Timonen is out – tough break for him and his team, but the playoffs move relentlessly on, no matter what.
Let’s hope that Sunday night’s game is a wonderful Mother’s Day present for all the moms who are Pens’ fans! C’mon, boys, play another great game and make your mom’s day! We all want to dance the Pennsylvania Polka after the game.
Not only was I hockey-deprived this week, I was also donut-deprived – so let’s jump back in to the donut pool for the next one of our dozen – something with sprinkles or icing will do –choose your personal favorite.
Detroit Destroys Dallas
Although I saw only a few highlights of this game, I could tell that Dallas has their work cut out for them if they expect to go longer than four games in this series. The Wings are looking unbeatable, but the Stars need to keep playing their game and do their best to hold off the “Mule” and all the rest of Detroit’s motor city scoring madmen, Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Draper. Hopefully Dallas will head back to Texas tied at 1-1 and keep their momentum from the last series going. It’s hard to stop that big wheel once it gets rolling!

Here is the first picture of little Crosby Elizabeth in Pittsburgh. Isn’t she a sweetie?
